"A band's material will be eligible for inclusion if it is found on a release by a different band so long as that material is credited to the original band and the band's line-up who recorded the material in question had no independent releases."
The Winthers recorded a single track, which was released on spinART's 1995 multiband compilation "Lemonlime Volume One" (which I've added to the queue). Later, member Allen Clapp included the track, unchanged, on his 2006 solo release "Something Strange Happens" (which I will be adding to the queue soon), commenting in the liner notes that it had been released "under the monicker The Winthers" and was taken from the aforementioned compilation.
The question is, should "Something Strange Happens" be queued as a multi-band compilation and have entries for both Allen Clapp and The Winthers, or does the earlier Lemonlime compilation count as an "independent release" by The Winthers under rule 3b, meaning that "Something Strange Happens" should only be listed as a solo release by Clapp?

It looks to me like Lemonlime is an independent release, so I don't think it goes on the Clapp recording.

AJ's right according to the language of the rule, but there is a post elsewhere in which we overruled the strictness of Rule 3b, despite the current language. As long as the material is properly credited to the original band, it is appropriate to create a "released by" entry in the database.
We'd still consider the Allen Clapp album to be a regular release, and not a compilation, because it sounds like the album as a whole is credited to Clapp.

So, it sounds like I should have two "normal release" entries for Something Strange Happens, one by Allen Clapp (solo artist), and one by The Winthers (released by Allen Clapp). Did I get that right?
And yes, the album as a whole is credited to Clapp.

Yep. That's the way to go.
