just a (hopefully) quick ruling on this one. this is credited to Outpost 13 & Luca Davis, where Outpost 13 is a band and Luca Davis is an inaudible author whose writings are narrated by a third party.
can we simply remove Davis from the band name and lineup? is there a precedent?

How about this:
[www.bandtoband.com] http://www.bandtoband.com/band/ben-folds/lonely-avenue
Not exactly the same crediting (front cover says 'Ben Folds adds music and melody to Nick Hornby's words' but the spine just says 'Ben Folds/Nick Hornby') but similar.
I agree with your method - I'd just ignore Davis.

This seems straightforward to me, but I would come out the other way. There is no prior release by a band named Outpost 13. There is no prior release by a band named Luca Davis. Therefore we have a band name of Outpost 13 & Luca Davis. Then we just figure out and list the members as we normally do.
I understand the inclination to do something different in this case, but I also don't like adding exceptions. We have always gone to great lengths to credit releases to the band name they were released under, even if they include non-database collaborators in band names ( [www.bandtoband.com] http://www.bandtoband.com/band/peter-gabriel/dont-give-up ), and I would lean toward doing the same here.
That said, Rule 6d is somewhat in line with what you two propose. Here's an example:

What does everyone else think?

there's seems to be another problem with leaving Davis in the band name/lineup:
first, since Davis is inaudible, he would be a ghost EXCEPT he doesn't fulfill all of the requirements to be a ghost, namely "2) The artist is already in the database. "
[www.bandtoband.com] http://www.bandtoband.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8566&postdays=0&postord...
therefore, Davis would be removed from the lineup but he would still be part of the band name.
i think applying Rule 6d gets my vote at this stage, which would make it:
Outpost 13||Outpost 13 & Luca Davis
at least until Davis gets into the database some other way.

bump to get this out of my questions queue, and to get a bit closer to having Basquiat in the live database.

Kevin and I talked about this one at length a month ago, but I've been reluctant to post about it because I am pretty sure that it won't be a popular ruling. Kevin didn't want to make a new rule exception for inaudible band member names included in band names, so we just processed this one under the normal band name rules.
When it came to band membership, Luca Davis is inaudible and, like a conductor or dancer, not capable of getting into the database without participating audibly in some recording somewhere. This makes for a three-person lineup.
I just added it to the database this way.

I think that's the proper ruling.

me too. it's not perfect having Davis in the band name but at least we're consistent.
