Email exchange between me and a contributor:

from me:
On the Grandsons LPs, could you break out the lineups for us? "Party With The Rich" had a few different bassists. Were you all considered members of the band or guests? I assume you all didn't play at the same time.

Also, what was the lineup for the live LP you played on.

----

from Eric:
I probably should start at the beginning of their discography (although, not all of these are available to be vetted on-line outside of the Grandsons.com web site). After the 2nd bass player left before the 3rd record was recorded, the band has gone with a small crew of us who play bass depending on the timing and location of the gig. Matt, Chris and Alan are in a legal partnership, so legally I don't think any of us bass players would be members, although we get full credits and compensation as if we were members. And since it's going on for over twelve years without a bass player, I feel like a member of the band...although not sure that passes muster with the guidelines.

----

from me:
That's a tough one. Lack of being involved in a legal partnership does not necessarily exclude you for us, but its a factor we take into account. What is more interesting to me is that nobody was the consistent bassist. Look like you played on lots of things, but so did other people during that same time.

I'm leaning towards excluding all the bassists, at least after bassist #2 left. Looks like the first two albums, before Matt joined, had everyone as members, and after that it was just Matt, Chris, and Alan.

I'm going to post this in our discussion forum, and see what everyone else thinks. Feel free to add your two cents. We argue about things like this all the time, and always reserve the right to change our minds.

I think your analysis is right on.
