Call this a personal prejudice from a pompous old man, but I recommend a rule against the inclusion of ephemeral "greatest hits" collections whose only purpose is to make money off people who have an insane desire to think themselves up with the fashion.

A particular example is the "Now (that's what I call music)" series of compilations which IMO have no business in this db and will do nothing but clutter it up with all sorts of irrelevance. All the use they are is more or less as a sort of snapshot on the chart at any particular time.

I think it would be a bad thing to ban anything wholesale from inclusion but I completely agree with ignoring those type of releases. There are also tons of CD samplers that record labels make and pass out in mailorder and the like which I think are useless. In my opinion if the release doesn't contain new material for a band I personally never bother about including it. There are clearly examples of greatest hits albums for a band that probably should be added but that's still the way I think about it.

It depends. I'm a fan of adding complete discographies when at all possible. I definitely don't want a rule exculding these types of releases, but most of the bands i care about don't involve themselves with them.

At times i think they are amusing, and want them in. For example -
