What is our current rule on this? Python and I are debating it an entry. Is it:
1) No alternate capitalisation styles at all; ie every words starts with a capital and no other capitals are allowed regardless of the way the band spelt it.
2) Use whatever it says on the cover - ie any non-standard capitals are OK as long as they are consistently used on the album.
3) As 1) but with limited exemptions where it would not make grammatic / spelling sense to adhere to 1) e.g. "The Murder Of JFK" not "The Murder Of Jfk" or Overkill's "ReliXIV" (Roman Numerals).

I think it's 3. I suspect Python also thinks it's 3 so we'll end up discussing whether a particular entry fits the criteria of 3 - but at least we'll be sure we know the rule...

That is my understanding (3).

I agree with rule 3, but with exceptions going slightly further.

For example, in the Hades entry you are referring to, the capital N in "DamNation" is a pun that goes with the theme of the artwork.

If the capital letter was simply an aesthetic one and looked cOOl in the artwork, then it would get sacked. I think this is a different case and it should stay.

Thoughts?

I'm not really agitated over this one but I think it's the fact that it's DamNation not DamnedNation. The first is a word that, although they've played with for effect, stands on its own. The second wouldn't and therefore a stronger argument could be made. I think.

I couldn't really find a way to describe an exception that would allow 'DamNation' but I think Mike's argument comes pretty close.

[bandtoband.com] addresses this issue pretty well. The rules aren't ideal, but they (usually?) make for easy decisions. I think a pun exception might work as would the one Scott suggested in that thread for this release ( [bandtoband.com] ), but for now the only exception is the one built into Capital Punishment 5. If we get annoyed enough, we can always change the rule later.
