Should the alias be exactly as given by the album, or not?

For example; if the artist (John Smith) is credited as "Smithy (John Smith)" on the album, is that how it should go in - or should the alias be resolved to "Smithy". I prefer the former as (for the sake of completeness of info) it makes it clear that his full name appeared on the album.
