Ref The Outfield - it's an analysis but there are plenty of things that make Outfield not sound so very like Police. The main things are the harmony vocals and Spinks' guitar style is rather different to Summers'. Take away the similar lead vocal ranges and you're not left with so much of a soundalike.

The first Outfield song I heard was "Say It Isn't So," (which I believe was the first single.) The opening riff reminded me of Big Country, and I was sold.

I only know the song Your Love and it always sounded like a cross between The Police and Van Halen to me. I guess I missed something.
