OK, for anyone else who happens to be interested I asked for the Welsh band Man (a.k.a. The Man Band) to be added on the basis that John Cipollina (from Quicksilver Messenger Service) was with them for a while, they toured the UK with him and released one live album, "Maximum Darkness" which was recorded at the Roundhouse,in London (and I was there at that show!)
I actually only went to that show because John Cipollina was playing, and I remember that there was a whole load of publicity in the British music press at that time about him, the "legendary West Coast guitarist" who had joined a British band!

I felt at the time that it opened a whole lot of peoples eyes to the "West Coast" music scene, although of course we weren't completely ignorant of it here - but most people simply knew Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Doors (yes I know LA not SF but pretty much the same thing to us over here!) and maybe Country Joe and the Fish (from seeing the film of Woodstock) and the rest were largely ignored, particularly Quicksilver Messenger Service, they were very under-rated here. ANd of course none of the bands were ever as big here as they were in the USA.

So I feel that it's an imortant link as it added a whole new dimension to both Man and also what was going on in British music at that time.

The problem I have is that it's unclear whether John Cipollina was on the tour as a band member or a guest, some people/sites show it one way and some the other.

which I intent to investigate when I get time, there are links all over the place! Unfortunately I suspect that many of the bands in this family tree have never released any recordings so I'm not sure how much help it is. It seems that they are linked somewhere along the line to Pete Brown's Piblokto who are already on this site, so I wonder if that is a way in for Man if all else fails?

I would certainly like to see Man on the site as it provides a way in for a number of major artists including Dire Straits and Nick Lowe.

So, does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Now, Man / Piblokto! would be some connection to see! I haven't investigated it myself, but I'm interested ...

Incidentally, two old Battered Ornaments / Piblokto! LP's have been released on a 2CD set recently. Must be worth checking out.

No need for questionable Cipollina links--Man and Dire Straits just joined the family.
