Development Site

Hey guys,

It’s been a true source of personal shame that I haven’t been able to get the new site up for so long. I work on it daily, despite being on full radio silence for some time. For that I’m sorry.

I’ve put up a development copy of the new site for everyone to check out. It’s only 70% done but you can see where it’s going:

The entire site has been built up from scratch. Everything. There isn’t a single line of code from the old site in there, which is why it is taking so long. The development site is currently running an old snapshot of the data be be aware that it’s not all there yet.

Working:
- Click to login, click ‘Forgot Password’ to have a password reset sent to your email
- users’ additions should be shown
- add new albums
- verify albums
- make albums live
- posting in the forums
- search (all is case sensitive)

Not working:
- I’ve only imported a few live album covers
- wiki albums covers have not been ported (and turned off for now)
- evidence
- statistics
- rule page
- front page
- shortest link algorithm
- a thousand other things

Please note: the dev site is just a snapshot of the live data. You can mess around with it as much as you want and it won’t affect the current site.

Post on the dev forums (in Announcements) on what’s broken and I’ll keep a running list of what to work on. I already have a very long list but it’s good to try and keep track.

Awesome that it's coming together and I look forward to messing in there a bit.

For now, I get "500 | Server Error" when I try to use the Forgot Password function.

Dang, it was working for me. I'll take a look today and update. Thanks for letting me know.

This looks to be an issue with Amazon AWS not wanting to send email to non bandtoband.com email addresses. Their hosting services are an absolute madhouse of permission structures, I'm going to have to dig in deeper to figure out how to get them to send outbound email.

I've messed with the mail settings and I can patch it using my email address to get the mail sent. I'll ultimately try and use a generic email address for these system emails, but just want to get it up and running first.

Also, check your spam folder if you don't get the email immediately and let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Just catching up -- this looks amazing! I was able to do the password reset without a problem.

Glad that you were able to rest the password.

Please note that the dev site is just that and not the full scale replacement. When the new site takes over all that data will be replace by the current live data (so you'll have to go through the password reset again).

I'll be posting updates between here and the forums on the dev site if you want to keep an eye on progress.
