The late 90s reissues of 'Can't Buy..' and 'Countdown' have sleeve notes by Fagen and Becker.

These are explicit that David Palmer joined part way through recording 'Can't Buy' and left part way through the recording of 'Countdown...'.

The second of those is complicated slightly by a comment that he hadn't recorded a single note, yet he's credited with backing vocals. That only matters as to whether he's greyed out I guess but it seems clear the early line-ups need revising.

I updated the lineups. I don't like overruling credits from the original releases, but it sounds as if Fagen and Becker were unambiguous about Palmer's lack of audible participation. The original credits may have been based on a misunderstanding somewhere along the chain from the band to the people who laid out the artwork.
