I'm having some trouble with this entry but once it's completed we should be able to close down some gaps between The Roots and some jazzy bands through Josh Abrams. copy/pasted from the evidence section of this entry:

[web.archive.org] biography.html
"The Roots' original lineup included Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter (MC) and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson (drums)... they added a bassist named Josh "The Rubberband" Abrams... later added another MC named Malik Abdul Basit-Smart ("Malik B."), a new bassist Leonard Nelson Hubbard, and a keyboardist named Scott Storch. Another MC, Kid Crumbs, was a part of the group for their first album, Organix, but did not appear on any later albums. Scott Storch also left to pursue a producing career following the Do You Want More?!!!??! album... The Roots filled his void with another keyboardist, Kamal Gray, who is still a member."

^^^ this provides a lineup of:
Black Thought, ?uestlove, Hub, Malik B., Josh Abrams (keyboardist), Kamal.

Black Thought and ?uestlove are original members and can be added.
Kamal didn't join until Storch left and so can be omitted.
Abrams was not a keyboardist.
***
Malik B wasn't a member on this.
"Okayplayer: When did you officially join The Roots?
Malik: In 1994, after Organix...."

..plus i went through the lyrics here [[http://www.lyricsdepot.com/album/the-roots/organix.html] and he only appears on one track.

this says both Leonard Hubbard and Joshua Abrams played Bass on this so we possibly have two lineups based on the bassists.
**
[www.discogs.com]
Scott Storch appears to have been on much of this though he appears on albums sometimes as a guest and sometimes as a member.
[top40.about.com]
this says "he played keyboard for the group The Roots on their Organix album."
i'm going to add him as a member as he appears as such on 'Do You Want More!?!' according to this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_You_Want_More%3F!!!%3F%3F!] - it says their crew at this point had a keyboard player. however, i'm not 100% confident of this decision.
**
The only other member referred to above is Kid Crumbs. he appears on about half the songs according to this: [http://www.lyricsdepot.com/album/the-roots/organix.html] so it could go either way. however, black thought appears on all tracks and ?uestlove even appears on half the tracks though he is primarily a drummer, so i would be inclined to say he was a guest.

Chuck Treece is mentioned as being the guitar player on the album but isn't mentioned as a member on wikipedia and this [http://www.discogs.com/artist/Chuck+Treece] makes it pretty clear he is a session musician.

some more evidence:

^ this is a film clip from the album. the lineup in this clip [and on this track - [www.discogs.com] seems to be ?uestlove, Joshua, Black Thought and Crumbs (?uestlove played keys on this which could explains why Storch wasn't in it). this at least shows us that they were a smaller band then and there weren't any hidden members that i've forgotten about.

i need a bit more help with this - specifically in determining whether Hub, Abrams, Crumbs and Storch were members or guests.
