Links in "tooltips"

I was thinking about the three-level family trees that we see on the band pages, and I'm always clicking all over the place trying to figure out how one band links to the next. So I thought, wouldn't it be cool if you could just mouse over the band in the tree, and have a "tooltip"-type layer that would pop up and show you who makes the link and through which albums? And then I thought, yeah, that would be cool.

Just an idea.

Every time I try and respond to this I try and think of a new way to make it happen, unfortunately I've never been able to come up with a decent solution one way or another. Getting this to happen is currently outside of my range of knowledge and ability and spending the time to learn it is not within any short term time frame. I'll defintely keep it in mind however, it would be a great addistion.
