5000 And Days To Spare

Mark and I were hoping to hit 5000 bands by the one year anniversary (the site launched at exactly 2005-01-25 23:21:40) and it seems we hit it with a few days to spare. When we first started I remember thinking that 5000 was the absolute maximum threshold the site could hit and now we've knocked it out within a year. Thanks to everyone who's helped out so far and hopefully we can keep the train rolling through the next 5k.

May I be the first to offer my heartfelt congratulations. The amount of work you guys put into constantly expanding and improving the site is truly staggering. Thanks for maintaining such a fantastic labor of love.

"Fourded". Great job. Doing research for this site has become one of my biggest hobbies.

And it's about 11.5 months since I first sent in a contribution (Feb. 12, 2005). I haven't contributed much in the past six months, but it's really amazing to see how far things have come.

Amusingly, it's currently "5009 bands, 9005 albums". Was that reversal purposeful?
A useless statistic

An incredible 18% of all those 5009 bands are within 3 steps of Whitesnake.

We definitely could not have done it without all of you and the dozens (hundreds?) of others who have submitted stuff over the past year (has anyone seen KateUK lately?). So, thanks a lot.

And yes, the 5009 / 9005 was intentional. I had to end the night on something interesting and I'm glad someone noticed.

KateUK's been busy doing other stuff ... I'm in touch with her sporadically - she's a busy lady!
I'm still around...

Matt told me you were asking after me :)
Just haven't had much time to do any research lately, and running out of inspiration for bands to research anyway, you guys (that includes all the researchers) have done so well!!!

5047 bands to date! Congrats!

Wow, 1,000 more bands in two and a half months? Not bad... So at a rate of about 400 a month, we're right on track to hit 10,000 by the second anniversary!
Oh, 10000

Hitting 10k by the second anniversary is certainly the plan. Oh, what a glorious day that would be.

So do solo artists count in that tally? And have they always?
Yep

Solo artists do count in the total, there's no reason for them to not. Granted that could be viewed as "padding" the count somewhat but at 6000 bands thus far I don't think we can be accused of taking any easy routes.

Well, we obviously didn't reach 10,000 bands by the end of the second year, but I think we accomplished a lot of great things.
